Opera Atelier holds a unique place in the North American theatre community, producing opera, ballet and drama from the 17th and 18th centuries. These productions draw upon the aesthetics and ideals of the period, featuring soloists of international acclaim, period ballet, original instruments, elaborate stage decor, exquisite costumes and an imaginative energy that sets Opera Atelier apart.
Since 1974, Opera in Concert has achieved an amazing record of more than 158 operas, 90 of which have been Canadian Premieres, stylistically ranging from Vivaldi’s LA GRISELDA through Schmidt’s NOTRE DAME to the modern sonorities of Harry Somers’ THE FOOL. We’re a collective of Toronto artists – actors, opera singers, musicians, painters, writers, dancers, and arts professionals – with a thing for performing in unique spaces. Tafelmusik was founded in 1979 and is Canada’s award-winning period instrument orchestra, renowned in North America and internationally for its distinct, exhilarating and soulful performances. The Tafelmusik Chamber Choir was formed later in 1981, to complement the orchestra, specializing in baroque performance practice and vocal technique. Together they form the heart of Tafelmusik, a group of remarkably talented, enthusiastic and dynamic musicians.
The Toronto Consort consists of musicians who excel equally as singers and performers on a wide variety of instruments. Since its founding in 1972, it has become internationally recognized for its excellence in the performance of medieval, renaissance and early baroque music.
The Elora Festival and Singers are not only a professional choir of international regard, but also present a summer festival of classical and contemporary music, with an emphasis on choral works featuring Canadian artists in the unique setting of the Village of Elora.
